Armed with a global perspective and a burning desire to tough stories unfolding on the world stage, documentary filmmaker Michael Davie, is equally at home in front of the camera and behind it. Passionate about the craft of filmmaking he has spent fourteen years shooting, directing and reporting in documentary films for National Geographic Television, ABC and SBS (Australia), The Seven Network (Australia) HDNet, NBC, Channel Four (UK), PBS and CNN.
For his work on National Geographic’s Ultimate Explorerepisode “Liberia: American Dream?” Davie and his team won the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award in 2004, TV’s equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize. Jurors awarding the prize commented, “National Geographic’s team showed both courage and insight. Before the team was evacuated they documented stories of massacres, divided families, armed rebel gangs and a humanitarian crisis that spilled over into Sierra Leone. Despite the horror and remoteness of the story to most American viewers, this program is a compelling example of the important role international coverage can play in informing an American audience.”
Michael is committed to telling the underreported story. His mission is to chronicle the lives of people on the frontlines of political, cultural, and environmental change.
