Bill Cosby is quite simply an international treasure with the unique ability to touch people’s hearts … while at the same time, making them laugh. And this year, the legendary entertainer is celebrating the 50th anniversary of his show business debut! It was in 1962 when Cosby left his hometown of Philadelphia and began appearing at New York’s Gaslight Cafe. His comic routines were so successful that he soon became a coast-to-coast sensation spawning a string of top-selling comedy albums which went on to earn eight Gold records, five Platinum records and five Grammy Awards. In 1965, he became the first African-American actor to star in a weekly television show. I Spy ran on NBC for three seasons with Cosby winning three consecutive Emmy Awards. Three years later, he starred in his first sitcom, The Bill Cosby Show which aired for two seasons on NBC. In 1972, he created, produced, voiced and hosted Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids … a popular animated Saturday morning show which ran on CBS until 1979.

Cosby again rocked the television world in the 80’s with his second sitcom, The Cosby Show. The hugely successful series ran on NBC for eight seasons and single-handedly revived the family sitcom. During the 90’s, he hosted a syndicated revival of the classic Groucho Marx game show, You Bet Your Life and starred in his third sitcom, Cosby which aired on CBS for four seasons. During that time, he also hosted CBS’s Kids Say the Darndest Things. He has appeared in several feature films including Uptown Saturday Night and Let’s Do It Again and has written such best-selling books as Fatherhood and I Didn’t Ask to Be Born (But I’m Glad I Was) which was just released last year. As well, he has received many awards for his accomplishments including a Kennedy Center Honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Cosby still enjoys performing stand-up to sold-out audiences throughout North America and will be appearing for two shows – one night only – at the River Rock Casino Resort on June 1, 2013.
