Best known as the front man for the Four Seasons, Frankie Valli scored a total of twenty-nine Top 40 hits with the group and nine Top 40 hits as a solo artist. It was in the summer of 1962 when Frankie and the band released the song, “Sherry” which was penned by songwriter, Bob Gaudio in just fifteen minutes. The song moved slowly until the group performed on American Bandstand. The very next day, it sold an astounding 200,000 copies catapulting Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons into superstardom. With “Sherry”, they had crystallized a distinctive musical style … the popular doo-wop music of the 50’s inflected with the rhythm & blues influences that would come to define much of the music of the 60’s. And with Frankie’s amazing falsetto as its trademark, the Four Seasons’ sound would become one of the most enduring in all of rock & roll! Over the next few years, they released numerous hits including “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, “Walk Like a Man”, “Candy Girl” and “Rag Doll”.
And today, thanks to the volcanic success of the Tony Award-winning musical, Jersey Boys – which chronicles the life and times of Frankie and his legendary group – their songs are all the rage once again! With the play in its eighth blockbuster year on Broadway and five other casts performing the hit show nightly from Las Vegas to London, the real Frankie Valli is also packing venues around the world including a one-night engagement at the River Rock Casino Resort on August 9, 2013.
