Friday, June 13th is going to be unlucky for cancer when the River Rock Casino Resort presents “Irwin Barker & Friends: Fighting Cancer With Comedy” … a special show with all proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society. Irwin Barker is a Gemini nominated comedy writer and performer who is well known in the Vancouver comedy scene. He is currently a staff writer on CBC’s award-winning “Rick Mercer Report.” Prior to the Mercer Report, he spent several years as a writer for CBC’s “This Hour Has 22 Minutes.” In June 2007, Irwin was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive type of terminal cancer. Irwin has since applied his gift of humour to speaking at cancer fundraisers and benefits. The “Irwin Barker & Friends: Fighting Cancer With Comedy” show was planned to be a show of support from Irwin’s friends and colleagues in the Canadian comedy scene to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society and to generate support for cancer research. The show will include top comedy performers from across Canada including Mike Bullard from the long-running "Open Mike with Mike Bullard” and Shaun Majumder and Mark Critch from “This Hour Has 22 Minutes.” Also appearing will be local Vancouver favourite, Peter Kelamis and up and coming Sam Easton as well as surprise guests. It is a guaranteed evening of laughs with a positive message and an opportunity to support cancer research. 

“Corner Gas” creator and star, Brent Butt will be the surprise guest at Friday night’s fundraising show, “Irwin Barker & Friends: Fighting Cancer With Comedy” happening at the River Rock Casino Resort on Friday, June 13th. Brent will be performing on stage along with Irwin Barker, Shaun Majumder and Mark Critch from “This Hour Has 22 Minutes.” Also appearing will be Bruce Clark, Sam Easton and local favourite, Peter Kelamis.
