From his work on the Emmy-Award winning “St. Elsewhere” to the Emmy nominated “Bobby’s World,” Howie Mandel has become a mainstay of the North American comedy scene. Born and raised in Toronto, he began his career during a trip to Los Angeles in 1979 where he performed on Amateur Night at the legendary Comedy Store. As fate would have it, there was a producer in the crowd who immediately hired him to appear on the game show, “Make Me Laugh.” That appearance led to appearing on talk shows and a stint as the opener for Diana Ross. It was in 1982 when Howie landed the role of “Dr. Wayne Fiscus” on the award-winning NBC series, “St. Elsewhere” which lasted a total of six seasons. His first voice-over job was in 1984 playing the role of “Gizmo” in the film, Gremlins. That same year, he was the voice behind several characters on the CBS Saturday morning cartoon, “Jim Henson’s Muppet Babies.” Then after voicing the part of “Maurice” in the 1989 film, Little Monsters, he decided to create his own animated series, the Emmy Award-nominated “Bobby’s World” which ran for eight seasons on FOX and now appears in syndication six days a week in sixty-five countries. As the series’ creator and executive producer, Howie was closely involved in its writing as well as providing the voices of “Bobby” and “Bobby’s Dad” along with several other characters ... he attributes the show’s success to drawing the storylines from real life. Howie has done countless comedy specials both on cable and network. He has also hosted his own syndicated talk show, “The Howie Mandel Show” and continues to be a mainstay on the talk show circuit. He frequently appears on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” performing his signature hidden camera bits. As well, he’s one of the first people that Regis Philbin calls to fill in for him on “Live with Regis and Kelly.” For the past two years, Howie has hosted NBC’s prime time game show, “Deal or No Deal” and just last year, he was the host of “Deal or No Deal Canada” which aired on Global for a limited five-show run. When the hit game show is not in production, he’s busy performing as many as 200 shows throughout Canada and the US. Howie resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Terry and their three children.
