Grammy Award-winning artist, Melissa Manchester has successfully established herself as one of the most compelling singer/songwriters in contemporary music. She first made a name for herself in 1973 with her debut album, Home To Myself followed by Bright Eyes in 1974 which positioned her as a dynamic new talent. Her third album, Melissa which was released in 1975 launched her first hit single, “Midnight Blue.” In 1978, Melissa and Kenny Loggins co-wrote the hit duet, “Whenever I Call You Friend” which Kenny recorded with Stevie Nicks ... she then recorded the song herself for her 1979 album, Melissa Manchester. That same year, she was nominated for a Grammy Award for “Best Pop Female Vocal Performance” for her hit single, “Don’t Cry Out Loud.” Then in 1980, Melissa became the first artist in the history of the Academy Awards to have two nominated movie themes in a given year: “Ice Castles” and “The Promise.” She went on to make Oscar history by performing both songs in their entirety during the show. She wrote “Lovers After All” for her 1980 album, For The Working Girl which she performed with Peabo Bryson and was a hit on both the Pop and R&B charts. She received the Grammy Award for “Best Female Vocalist” for “You Should Hear How She Talks About You” from her album, Hey Ricky in 1982. Melissa has combined her acting and singing talents in starring roles in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Song and Dance” and “Music Of The Night” and in 1991, she appeared in Bette Midler’s feature film, For The Boys. She also had a recurring role as “Maddy Russo” on NBC’s hit sitcom, “Blossom” from 1993 to 1994. It was in 2004 when Melissa returned with her first album in ten years, When I Look Down That Road. She recently received the Governor’s Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for her contributions to the music and recording arts. Melissa still enjoys performing to sold-out audiences and will be making her debut at the River Rock Casino Resort in September.
